KAMP IMPORTANT UPDATE!
This week the KAMP team received unexpected and deeply impactful news. In the spirit of transparency, love, and mutual respect, the very values that built KAMP, we want to share openly with the Queer, Trans, and Gender Diverse folx who have found connection, joy, and liberation in this space.
Due to a loss of government funding our current venue will be closing in the immediate future. As a result and with a touch of horrible poetic irony, our final play party at this beloved location will be “Punk Pride” taking place during Pride Month, on June 7th, 2025.
We understand this announcement may come as a shock, it did for us too. As this loss was completely unexpected, at this time we do not have an alternate venue confirmed for ongoing parties and we cannot yet offer a timeline for the return of KAMP play parties.
We recognize that this news may feel abrupt and unsettling especially for those who have found belonging, self expression, and authentic queer joy here. Please know we feel it too. In a time when anti-queer, anti-trans, and anti-2SLGBTQIA+ rhetoric and policy are on the rise both globally and close to home the need for intentional, queer-only spaces has never been more urgent. We remain deeply committed to creating and protecting safe(r) kinky queer spaces.
Queer Munch will continue. New dates will be posted soon. <3
Now more than ever we are called to care for each other and to fiercely defend the spaces that allow us to show up fully and safely. If you need support with this news, please reach out to loved ones, chosen family, or the additional resources listed at the bottom of this writing. Please be tender and kind with one another. While we care deeply for every one of you our team is also navigating the emotional impact of these changes and may not always be able to provide direct support.
We are profoundly grateful for everything this venue has made possible. Its full accessibility has been crucial to our goal of inclusivity and we are committed to upholding that standard moving forward. The long standing positive relationship with the venue's management has also allowed us to keep rental costs manageable which was something that made a real difference in the sustainability and affordability of our events.
As we look to the future we’ll be weighing a number of critical considerations. Accessibility, affordability and the capacity of our volunteer team are among them. We understand that the initial impulse for many is to offer help or ideas in these instances and it is part of what we believe makes this scene so beautiful. While we welcome folx to reach out with any leads, we kindly ask that you send them to us via DM rather than public comments as we would like to keep the comments section as a space for community reflection and compassion.
We will move forward together with care, with courage and with the knowledge that queer spaces don’t just happen. They are made, protected, and re-made by all of us.
With love and resilience,
@Graeae, @bats, @feistyfox, @creature, @littlejaybird and @lilprairiepup.
